HKD = Hong Kong Dollar

The Hong Kong Dollar is the official currency of Hong Kong.

It is overseen by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) but the actual issuance is carried out by three major commercial banks.

Unlike most countries where a single central bank issues banknotes, three banks in Hong Kong (HSBC, Standard Chartered, and Bank of China) print the majority of banknotes.

The HKD is pegged to the US Dollar (USD) under a linked exchange rate system with an exchange rate between HK$7.75 - HK$7.85 per USD. This helps maintain financial stability and makes Hong Kong an attractive financial hub.
